Afterlight for Flute Alone by Robert Dick

Afterlight is dramatic work, and is meant to be performed with a sense of power, expansiveness and control. It is notated without bar lines in order for each performer to phrase with freedom while still respecting the score. As the flutist achieves an increased dynamic range for the multiphonics, the tempo may be slowed. Afterlight should be played with the maximum range of tone colors and dynamics. Afterlight is dedicated to James Pappoutsakis in gratitude for the artistry and humanity he so nobly taught.
