Olas No Tienen Fronteras (Waves Have No Borders) [Duet]
Written by Dr. Eric Delgado, commissioned by Flute Specialists to be premiered at the 2023 NFA Convention in Phoenix as part of the showcase “The Highs and Lows of Harmony Flutes”. This piece was written for B-flat flute and E-flat Flute.
Olas no tienen fronteras means “waves have no borders” in Spanish. The composer was inspired by Pacific Ocean waves which crash against the end of the border wall near his hometown of San Diego, California. The composition mixes lighthearted moments of interplay between flutes with introspective and intense ones, reflecting on fond memories of playing at the beach and the contrast with the hostile division of land and sea. The piece focuses on how enjoyment is found in the waves on both sides of the border and a border cannot divide the similarity of those experiences.
