Pas de deux was written in 2010 for Lisa Hanson Bartholow. Ms. Bartholow is flute instructor at Georgia College and State University, Clayton State University, and Toccoa Falls College. She has played flute, piccolo, and baroque flute with classical and popular ensembles in St. Louis, Chicago, Atlanta, and other cities.

The name “Pas de deux” implies a close relationship between two people or things, and in ballet it is a duet consisting of several sections. The four highly-stylized, dance-like movements of this suite are duets that require just such coordination between the two performers.
