PROGRAM NOTE
Through & Between, for alto and bass flute, is a work that explores the interlocking, canonic, and juxtaposed shaping of a short, 4-bar phrase. The inspiration comes from the enjoyment and ever-charming relationship I have with both commissioning flutists, Heather and Tatiana. Their buoyant energy and witty sense of humor lead me to creating something that encompassed these traits through rhythmic mimicry and quick changes of character.
I send my deepest thanks to both Heather and Tatiana for their friendship, their eagerness for new repertoire for low flutes, and for supporting living composers.
